Attention Market Update - 6/15/09

Hello MeFiles!

From time to time, we'll be posting updates like this on how things are progressing in this free-market experiment called YouData.  Below is the first report from the lab.  After you give it a read, please take some time to leave your questions, suggestions, and comments.  We want to hear what you're thinking, and what we can do to improve the system.  Your feedback is taken very seriously.  Thanks!

First, we want to sincerely thank you all for your support, feedback, curiosity, and mostly your patience, as YouData's little attention marketplace gets its legs.  We are THRILLED at the response the system is getting from consumers, advertisers, and content providers such as web sites and blogs.  It's still early in the game, and we have a long way to go, but so far it looks like this thing just might work!

-------------------------

At its core, YouData is a marketplace, a free economy of sorts, pairing the supplier of a product (you and your attention) with an interested buyer (yes, advertisers are now your customers).  Thus, your MeFile participates in a free market beholden to the natural economic laws of supply-and-demand.  When there is a general surplus of demand for attention (more ads than MeFiles), some of you will see more ad offers at a higher price, as advertisers compete for the limited supply of attention.  When there is a surplus of supply (more MeFiles than ads), some of you will see fewer ad offers and lower offer prices.

As the the graph above illustrates, recently MeFile growth has exploded.  While the number of ads in the system continues to grow steadily , MeFile growth is currently outpacing it.  Thus, supply is currently outpacing demand, and the existing number of ads is spreading more thinly across a growing supply of MeFiles, resulting in a temporary period of less ads for less money for some MeFiles.

The good news is that this condition is only temporary, and the advertiser/demand side will catch up.  Seriously - advertisers are loving the product that you are delivering, and more and more advertisers learn each day that you are "open for business" and providing the best attention product available.  The more MeFiles in the marketplace, the quicker the marketplace attracts more and larger advertisers - so this is a GREAT "problem" to have!  (Keep those referrals coming!)

Of course, we all want the number of advertisers using our new marketplace to grow as quickly as possible.  So what can we all do to help accelerate the growth of that green line?

At YouData, we have a few tricks up our sleeve that we will be announcing over the next few weeks including:

  • Increased marketing efforts designed to create more awareness among advertisers
  • Adding more people to YouData's own internal sales force
  • Continue forming key partnerships with third-party agencies and consultants to help sell more ads through the system
  • Arming the population of MeFiles with tools and methods to help get the attention of advertisers

So stay tuned - we are just getting started.  This is going to get exciting!

Be sure to give us your thoughts in the comments below.

And thanks again for helping us fix advertising!

:-)
Team YouData

Hopefully supply will equal demand soon. I haven't had any ads in the last week or two. This is my first! I just updated my Me File though, so maybe that will help a little. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Looks like things are going up. Still looking to do more with this site as time progresses.

I have always dilligently clicked through ads, have even made a couple purchases, but haven't seen and ad for a week or so. Find a way to fix this, or I won't continue to come back and check.

I really enjoy youdata and can wait for good things to happen. With most paid to read sites you click and that is that. I click here and it is something I like and if at the time I cannot purchase anything I could always go back to my account activity and click on the advertiser's site and buy when I want. I really enjoy youdata, this is something new I can wait for more ads. I know the economy is really down now and everyone want more ads to increase their pay. I don't see this as a get rich site, it is a loaf of bread site it you want to look at it in money terms. I just like it the way it is and happy youdata exist. Thanks for the update.

This information is very nice to know. I was getting a little frustrated because I'm getting fewer ads. Now that I know why; It makes a lot of sense. Thanks again for the information.

Thank you for the update. I do check every day and I will be happy when there are more ads to review. I am an internet buyer of things I can use or gift.

I absolutely love YouData's concept and the fact that we get paid every week! (Even if it is a small amount,) That makes book keeping so much easier and a person doesn't lose interest because they haven't been compensated. Keep up the great work!

As a MeFiler I had found some interesting products in your ads and bought some of them. I am very satisfied with them. That's wonderful. Yes, I want to see more ads from you. And I believe you will make progress on your business constantly.

I just love this program, and I enjoy being a part of it. I have actually purchased some items from ads that I got paid for. Hopefully more advertisers will see the advantages to this great program! Thanks :)

I just started and I am find this a great way to look at ads so I thrilled that there will be more in the furture.

I could see the reason why I am getting paid less. But if the greenline does not come up as expected there should be something done to the blue line so that it does not go too high with a very low green line.

It may mean you have to take in less of new members. It is just like stocks. The more new members you enter the more diluted our earnings become without any significant increase in ads. As a business you have to take care of current members.

I actually love this - and i forwarded one of the ad's I saw to a friend and she bought so much stuff.
